2020; the unsung song of the godless ones

God, if I loved ‘ya
would’ya hold me through it all?
God, if I knew ‘ya, now,
Would you tell me it’s okay —
to set it down?

God, if I knew ya,
Walkin’ downtown,
With a mask for a face,
and a plastic crown —
Would ‘ya dance distantly
on a sidewalk with me?

Sing through windows,
in Italy?
Would ‘ya, help me find a pandemic love,
that stays behind walls,
but reaches above the
barriers.

Our skin turns into paler versions
of what we used to show.

God, if you know,
let us walk and let us go
we’ve, grown,
I promise — so

If I loved ‘ya,
would’ya hold me through it all,
so I could feel it,
through these walls?

If I knew ‘ya now,
Would you take off the crown,
kneel down, rest my chin on your hands
and tell me —

“It’s okay to feel down
like no-one understands
it’s okay to walk around
with your chin down
it’s okay to be human
without a God,
I’ll be here anyway,
saying’ it’ll be okay.”
