Why I Ran Away

You felt familiar,
Like ice-cream and rain

Held somewhere and
nowhere

We felt the same
tremors, under our skin

I can’ t pretend this
Is nothing

But I ran away for
a reason

My chest raw, and tight
I saw a light –

I preferred (to yours)
And I can’ t tell you

Why I ran away

You felt familiar,
Like ice-cream

And rain.

So when I saw your name
Again

I felt tension creep
slowly into my chest

I’ve been trying to prove
I made the best

Choices

But then –

Who else eats
ice-cream,

In the rain?

If its not about the
best choices

Or even the right ones
Then it has to be

That feeling
I ran away

Because you didn’t
taste like freedom

-You were never

Ice-cream
in the rain.
